BMW Australia has revealed pricing for its new updated 2021 BMW M5 Competition Hero sedan. It is more than $10,000 AUD pricier than its previous generation model. It now starts at $244,900 AUD before on-road costs. Let us find out why it is so expensive.

Updates in 2021 BMW M5 Competition Hero

Let us start with the upgrades in the new 2021 BMW M5 Competition Hero car. Following are the list of differences when compared to the current M5 Competition Hero model.

  • Updated front double grille. It is framed by a one-piece high gloss black surround.
  • Bigger air intakes
  • L shaped tubes on the headlights
  • Light weight and super-strong Carbon fiber reinforced roof
  • Some more minor updates
  • 12.3 inch infotainment screen
  • New leather sports seats with M5 backlight
  • New engine mounts with stiffer spring rate

You decide if the extra $10,000 is worth the upgrade. I personally feel that going for the 2020 model would be a good bargain as it is expected to have a drop in price once the 2021 model rolls out.

Engine Performance Update

There is no performance update. The drivetrain performance figures remain the same. The engine is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Together, they produce 460kW power and 750Nm of torque. BMW is claiming that it will reach 0-100Km/hr in 3.3 seconds. Considering that there is not much power or performance difference, it is hard to justify the increase in price.

Conclusion

2021 BMW M5 Competition Hero is the top of the line sports sedan from BMW. It has all the power to be aggressive and it is not a normal car. Relatively,  the high price against its predecessor is debatable. Apparently, it is the demand for BMW M5 among the die-hard fans to decide. I am a BMW fan too and I really love the new car.
