Gordon Murray Reveals the secrets to his new 663bhp T.50 supercar
Watch Gordon Murray talking to Harry from Harry’s Garage about his McLaren F1 successor car. This guy is a genius. It is a long vide, but definitely worth watching.
McLaren F1 successor: Gordon Murray’s T.50 Supercar
Gordon Murray, designer of the McLaren F1, is busy working on his own supercar. The name of this McLaren F1 successor is T.50. This car revives the F1’s signature delta-formation three-seater layout. Gordon has revealed its design and also the performance figures. The car will have a naturally aspirated V12 with a huge blower fan in the back. It literally blows away all the supercars that we know so far.
T.50 Design
Gordon Murray Design (GMD) has unveiled the latest iteration of the T.50 chassis named iStream. It is dubbed as Superlight. It has a modular monocoque with three seats. The three seats are arranged similar to the iconic McLaren F1 design.
The chassis is so modular that it can be designed as a hatch-back or SUV or a super sportscar. “The new iStream Superlight approach to vehicle manufacturing is a paradigm-shifting innovation for the global automotive industry. It is a breakthrough that will deliver the lightest chassis technology for decades to come,” Gordon Murray, founder of GMD, said.
McLaren F1 successor T.50: Engine
The McLaren F1 successor T.50 will be powered by all new 3.9-liter naturally aspirated Cosworth V-12 engine. The engine produces 650 hp and revving to an outrageous 12,100 rpm. As you can see in the main image—the first images officially released by Gordon Murray Automotive—the T.50 has a rear-mounted fan. This is similar to the BT46B. But it’s a much more refined item. The T.50’s fan is electric, which allows for infinitely variable speed, something the Brabham was not capable of.
The engine will be built by Cosworth. Bruce Wood, Cosworth’s managing director said “The criteria and benchmarks set by Gordon for the T.50 engine comprised one of the toughest engine briefs we’ve ever taken on. It pushes the boundaries in every direction and it is a genuine thrill for everyone at Cosworth to be part of what will surely become as fabled a vehicle as Gordon’s McLaren F1 before it. The programme has taken Cosworth to new heights. Although, only time will tell as it already feels like the GMA V12. It has the potential to be one of the most iconic engines of all time.”
