H2x Australia
A group of automotive enthusiasts is working on a plan to build fully hydrogen powered vehicles in Australia. Their company is registered as H2X. Many of the components for these vehicles will be sourced locally in Australia. But, some components like the chassis, etc. will be sources from Europe.
The Brand

H2x is planning to assemble hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicles for the Australian commercial market initially. They are currently targeting Australia’s cash rich commercial and mining sectors. Eventually, H2x Australia wants to expand to other areas like commercial taxis, vans and people movers. If all goes as per the plan, the company is planning to assemble these vehicles in Port Kembla, south of Sydney.
The CEO

Brendan Norman is the founder and CEO of H2X Australia. In an interview with CarAdvice, Brendan said “Hydrogen fuel cell systems are greatly aligned to the power outputs required for tasks found in industry, mining and marine. These projects will also help create a hydrogen industry for Australia, which we hope in turn, will help educate and promote the growth of the technology, and influence infrastructure establishment”. He also said, “We are working on passenger cars in tandem with commercial projects, to assess their viability and the public’s reception when the time is right.”
Stunning concept designs
H2X Australia has so far revealed few concept design and renders of their upcoming vehicles. They have provided designs for SUVs, Trucks, Vans and even a Bus. Following are some of the pictures of their concept cars. These concept cars are currently built outside of Australia. But once they have the car localized by their engineers, the production line will be able to build inhouse.
Availability of Hydrogen as fuel
When asked about the availability of Hydrogen, Brendan said, “Given the need for greater infrastructure to support hydrogen, applications where a vehicle has a common return point, such as a delivery van, taxi, or business fleet with pre existing hydrogen refueling capability, will likely suit our initial passenger vehicle offerings. From here, if hydrogen refueling stations become more prevalent in society, we can then address the idea of full-scale production and offering the car to the wider market.” Brendan also pointed out that the similar strategy is followed when LPG was initially made available commercially. Eventually, they started using it in vehicles.
Can H2X Australia beat Tesla?
The very question that comes to everyone’s mind about renewable energy vehicles is competition. Tesla seems to be the market leader in terms of Electric powered vehicle. Apparently, that forms the benchmark for renewable energy vehicles. H2X Australia is not building EVs, instead they are building HVs. Apparently, they are competitors in the renewable energy sector. Let the competition be healthy and beneficial to customers. Either case, they both are environment friendly.
