2021 Toyota Mirai

2021 Toyota Mirai Gets a Facelift – Looks cool?

This article is originally from supercars.net.

The 2021 Toyota Mirai is now available in the US. This is now the second generation of the Toyota Mirai and everyone will agree, it is also much better looking.

The Mirai is currently only available for purchase in California per CarandDriver.com, not necessarily a bad thing as hydrogen fueling stations are mostly only located in California and Hawaii at the moment.

Hydrogen-powered cars are currently in the same market as electric vehicles. The Marai is powered using a chemical reaction that extracts hydrogen from its electrons. Once combustion occurs, you are left with zero carbon emissions, 402 miles per tank, and $9,000 less than the price of the 2020 Mirai.

With the previous generation Mirai having the looks of a Prius or something that had “good looks” 3rd or 4th on its priority list. The 2021 Mirai is looking really sharp. You can even go as far as to say it looks like a Lexus LS500.

The Hydrogen powered car

The Toyota Mirai (from Mirai (未来), Japanese for “future”) is a mid-size hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (FCV) manufactured by Toyota, and represents one of the first FCV automobiles to be mass produced and sold commercially.[2][3] The Mirai was unveiled at the November 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.[4] As of December 2019, global sales totalled 10,250 Mirais. The top-selling markets were the U.S. with 6,200 units, Japan with 3,500 and Europe with 640.[5]

Under the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cycle, the 2016 model year Mirai has a total range of 502 km (312 mi) on a full tank, with a combined city/highway fuel economy rating of 66 mpg‑US (3.6 L/100 km; 79 mpg‑imp) equivalent (MPG-equivalent), making the Mirai the most fuel-efficient hydrogen fuel cell vehicle rated by the EPA, and the one with the longest range.[6]

Sales in Japan began on 15 December 2014 at ¥6.7 million (~US$57,400) at Toyota Store and Toyopet Store locations. The Japanese government plans to support the commercialization of fuel-cell vehicles with a subsidy of ¥2 million (~US$19,600).[7] Retail sales in the U.S. began in August 2015 at a price of US$57,500 before any government incentives. Deliveries to retail customers began in California in October 2015.[8] Toyota scheduled to release the Mirai in the Northeastern States in the first half of 2016.[9] As of June 2016, the Mirai is available for retail sales in the UK, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, and Norway.[10] Pricing in Germany starts at €60,000 (~US$75,140) plus VAT (€78,540).[11]

Not only does the new Mirai look good, but it has also updated its spec sheet to reflect its pleasing aesthetics. It is the first production rear-wheel drive fuel cell vehicle. In addition to the 402 miles per tank, you also see 182 horsepowers and 212 foot-pounds of torque. With a 9.1-second zero to 60mph, the Marai takes its time but with a fuel cell car of its beauty, we can wait.
