There’s a new hyper-exclusive McLaren in town, and it’s designed specifically for customers in the United States. It’s called the Sabre, and it’s packing 824 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque from a twin-turbo V-8, along with some wild looks, swing-up doors, and a top speed of 218 mph.

How to draw cars

The Sabre is the most powerful non-hybrid McLaren road car ever built, beating out the open-top Elva by 20 horsepower. According to McLaren Beverly Hills, it’s been homologated exclusively to U.S. federal standards, with “ideas and innovations that global homologation would not permit.” To us, it looks like a mashup between the company’s three-seater Speedtail and its Senna GTR track car.

Just 15 Sabres will be built, all already allocated to customers in the United States. Designed with help from McLaren’s Special Operations division, buyers were given the chance to drive a Sabre development car around Thermal Club’s private race track in California earlier this fall. Evidently, it’s probably the same event where these spy photos from late November emerged.

US only edition

Not only were buyers able to drive the car before its official release. But they were also able to give direct feedback to McLaren to tailor the car to their liking, setting up video chats with design and engineering teams in Woking to hear people’s thoughts, and apply changes.

Apparently, McLaren has yet to release pricing for the Sabre—not surprising considering they’ve all already been sold. Also, the first example is set to be delivered by McLaren Beverly Hills in the near future. We can’t wait to see these things on the road.
